I didn't have time to do a "proper" unboxing, so until I get pictures and such, I will just do an "old fashioned" what's in the box, with text :)
The computer comes in a typical HP laptop box, delivered in a protective waterproof cover by the UPS guy. Inside the box, you have these main items:
1. the laptop itself - with protection sheets for the display and the top cover. This was wrapped in a plastic bag with an HP Logo sticker-seal
2. the battery in a plastic bag
3. the AC adapter in bubble-wrap and the cable in a plastic bag (Yes, there are two separate pieces, not one; will monitor in case this has issues)
4. a six-fold poster-size "Start Here" and "Quick Tour" that has instructions on how to get the computer up and running
5. a black folder with an HP logo that has the following items inside:
* paper notepad (!) with the HP Envy laptop on the front, and bags on the back (yes, an actual notepad - you know, write with pen or pencil)
* coupon for 20% off HP accessories at HPdirect.com (expires April 30, 2010)
* 30-page "Notebook Essentials" booklet
* 20-page limited warranty printed on cheap paper
* sheet with worldwide technical support numbers
* coupon for 10% off Lifelock (oy vey!)
* promo for HP Imprint
* a couple of other papers and such
What's not in the box?
As it is the case with many of today's computers, there is no Windows or any other DVD included. You are instructed to create recovery DVDs on your own, or if you must have the actual DVDs you can *gasp* buy them from HP - see links at the reference page.
Despite this being common practice, it remains ridiculous that they are so cheap they can't include the DVDs with the computer! But I digress...
Needless to say, there is no printed user manual, nor discs containing the user manuals.
There are no other accessories - you have to provide your own mouse if you want to use one, your own monitor-cable, your own ethernet-cable, your own printer-cable, etc, etc :)
